Senator Craig Zucker has served the people of Maryland’s 14th district as senator since 2018. He has fought for working families throughout his career, prioritizing strong constituent services and sponsoring legislation that makes life easier and provides economic opportunity for working families.
First elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2010, Craig later joined the Maryland Senate in 2016. He currently serves on the Budget and Taxation Committee and chairs both the Senate Democratic Caucus and the Capital Budget Subcommittee, helping direct major investments in schools, infrastructure, parks, and community projects across Montgomery County. He has also spearheaded legislation to support Marylanders with disabilities with resources and support.
Early in his career, Craig worked for several members of Congress before serving in the Maryland government and later with SEIU, where he worked to improve wages and working conditions for home healthcare workers across the state.
Craig lives in Brookeville with his wife and two sons and remains active in local community and volunteer organizations.

Supporting Marylanders with Disabilities
Craig has built one of Maryland’s longest legislative records advocating for people with developmental disabilities. His work includes helping pass the ABLE Act, expanding autism services, creating pathways to higher education for students with disabilities, and supporting protections against unnecessary institutionalization. He also serves on the Maryland Commission on Disabilities.

Public Education and Student Success
Education has remained a major focus throughout Craig’s legislative career. His record includes passing the Ready to Read Act to support early literacy intervention, adding parent and teacher representation to the State Board of Education, and helping secure more than $100 million in school construction funding for District 14 schools.

Mental Health and Healthcare Access
Craig sponsored the Thomas Bloom Raskin Act, creating Maryland’s statewide mental health check-in program through the 211 system. He has also supported legislation focused on tenant legal protections, healthcare access, and services designed to help Marylanders before they reach crisis situations.

Housing Stability and Tenant Protections
Craig sponsored legislation helping establish Maryland’s Right to Counsel in Evictions program, helping make Maryland one of the first states to guarantee legal representation for low-income tenants facing eviction. He has also supported additional tenant protections and housing stability measures for Maryland families.

Government Accountability and Consumer Protection
Craig sponsored the nation’s first law requiring social media platforms to track and disclose political advertising information. His legislative work has also included protections against identity theft and efforts focused on transparency and accountability in government and online platforms.

Economic Development and Community Investment
As Chair of the Capital Budget Subcommittee, Craig has helped direct billions in infrastructure and capital investments throughout Maryland. In District 14, he helped secure major funding for school construction, parks, senior centers, transportation projects, and the Burtonsville Crossing revitalization effort.

Clean Energy, Transit, and Environmental Protection
Craig has maintained a consistent record supporting public transit investment, clean energy initiatives, and Chesapeake Bay protections. He has supported legislation promoting transit funding, banning hydraulic fracturing in Maryland, and advancing environmental protections across the state.
