EARLY VOTING JUNE 11–18 | ELECTION DAY IS JUNE 23
Tracy Gant
DEMOCRAT
for Maryland House of Delegates | District 22
Veteran. Leader.
Public servant.
Tracy Gant has spent her entire adult life serving the people of Prince George's County. She served seven years in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant before settling in Edmonston — a small, historically working-class community along the Anacostia River. In 1992, she became the first African American to serve on the Edmonston Town Council. In 2014, she became the first Black woman elected Mayor of Edmonston, a position she has held through three elections since.
As Mayor, Gant oversees a town government with a staff of three and a roughly $1.2 million annual budget — and has consistently delivered results that earn national recognition. She has served as President of the Maryland Municipal League, President of Maryland Black Mayors, and is a Vice Chair of the Advisory Board of Smart Growth America's Local Leaders Council. She has also spent years working professionally as a property manager, giving her direct, daily experience with the housing challenges facing working-class renters.
Tracy Gant Is Fighting For:
-
A Cleaner Environment and Greener Communities
Under Mayor Gant's leadership, Edmonston developed Maryland's first Green Street — converting a flood-prone corridor into a green infrastructure project capable of absorbing over an inch of rainfall in a typical storm. The town has since installed more than 30 green infrastructure practices, pioneered Maryland's first pervious curb and gutter system, added solar panels and EV charging stations at Town Hall, and launched an on-site urban farm and community gardens. Gant will bring that same commitment to environmental innovation to Annapolis.
-
Healthy Communities and Food Access
Tracy made the health and well-being of Edmonston residents a governing priority. Under her leadership, the town achieved Platinum status under the Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Cities & Towns Campaign — the program's highest designation — reflecting sustained progress on food access, active transportation, and public health. She championed community gardens to bring affordable fresh food to a low-to-moderate income community, and secured a HEAL Implementation Grant in 2019 to develop new bike lanes around local parks and trails.
-
Affordable Housing
Tracy Gant doesn't just talk about housing — she has first-hand experience as a professional property manager at an apartment complex. She has direct, daily experience with the tenant-landlord dynamics and rental housing access challenges that affect working families in District 22. She will bring that ground-level perspective to housing legislation in Annapolis.
-
Inclusion and Community
As President of the Maryland Municipal League, Tracy launched the "Time to Talk" initiative to help municipal leaders across Maryland build more inclusive communities. She has led the Maryland Black Mayors organization and has spent more than three decades ensuring that the voices of historically underrepresented communities are heard at every level of government.
-
Fiscal Accountability and Delivering Results
Running a town of 1,600 residents on a $1.2 million annual budget requires making every dollar count. Tracy has done it for over a decade as mayor — winning competitive grants, forming partnerships, and leveraging state and county programs to deliver results with limited resources.
