Matt Post grew up in Olney and attended Montgomery County Public Schools, graduating from Sherwood High School. While still a student, Matt was elected by his peers to serve as the Student Member of the Montgomery County Board of Education, where he advocated for expanded mental health resources, career and technical education pathways, and school calendar reforms recognizing Eid al-Fitr.
Following the 2018 Parkland school shooting, Matt became active in the national gun violence prevention movement, speaking at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., and later helping lead the organization’s legal efforts defending gun safety laws. Today, Matt serves as Assistant Counsel for the Maryland State Education Association, representing teachers, bus drivers, counselors, and school support staff across Maryland in the labor movement.
Matt earned degrees from Yale College and Yale Law School. He lives in Colesville and remains active in District 14 civic and community organizations.

Strong Public Schools and Student Success
Matt’s background in education advocacy began during his service on the Montgomery County Board of Education. He worked to expand student mental health resources, support career and technical education pathways, and increase representation for students from diverse backgrounds. Today, his legal work with the Maryland State Education Association continues to focus on supporting educators and strengthening Maryland public schools.

Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety
Following the Parkland school shooting in 2018, Matt became involved in national gun violence prevention efforts through March for Our Lives. He participated in student walkouts, spoke at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., and later helped lead the organization’s legal team defending gun safety measures in court.

As Assistant Counsel to the Maryland State Education Association, Matt represents educators and school employees across Maryland, including teachers, counselors, paraeducators, bus drivers, and support professionals. His work has focused on protecting workers, supporting public education, and strengthening opportunities for Maryland families.

Mental Health and Student Well-Being
Matt has consistently advocated for expanding mental health services for students and young people. From his time on the school board through his current campaign, he has emphasized the importance of school-based mental health supports and accessible behavioral health resources for Maryland families.

Community Leadership and Local Engagement
A lifelong District 14 resident, Matt has remained active in community and civic organizations throughout Montgomery County. He serves on the boards of the District 14 Democratic Club and the Greater Olney Civic Association and participates in the Burtonsville Day planning committee.

Building the Next Generation of Leadership
Matt has described his campaign as an effort to bring the perspective of a younger generation to issues including gun violence, climate change, and public education. His campaign has earned endorsements from education organizations including the Montgomery County Education Association and support from District 14 elected leaders.

Protecting Opportunity and Democratic Participation
Throughout his public service and advocacy work, Matt has emphasized civic engagement, voting participation, and public involvement in government. His work with student organizing and voter outreach efforts has focused on increasing participation and strengthening community involvement across Maryland.
